Works by photographer Jon Chodat of Malone and painter Diane E. Leifheit of Gabriels. Display open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, Columbus Day to Memorial Day. Free and open to the public.
Saturday, Oct. 15 - Backyard Bird Feeding Workshop
Held by the Adirondack Birding Center from 10 a.m.-noon. Participants will examine types of bird feeders, bird feed and the types of birds they might attract. Participants will also learn ways to attract more birds to their backyards through habitat enhancement. $10/person. Registration required; call Brian McAllister at (518) 327-6241.

Join astronomer Dr. Michael Adler for a discussion about the night sky at 7 p.m., after viewing his photography exhibit at 6 p.m. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres prepared by Paul Smith's hospitality and culinary students. Sunday, Nov. 6 - Concert: Peter Ostroushko with Danny Gotham
An evening with Peter Ostroushko, the former music director of NPR's "A Prairie Home Companion," and guitarist Danny Gotham. Tickets cost $15 and are for sale at the VIC, Books and Baskets in Saranac Lake, Ampersound in Saranac Lake or by reservation at (518) 327-6241.
Autumn Outdoor Education Field Trips:
Complimentary outdoor educational activities for area school districts are offered by VIC staff and volunteers. With support from the Adirondack Park Institute and a generous grant from the Countess Alicia Spaulding-Paolozzi Foundation, we are able to offer free programs to more than 500 students living in surrounding communities. Activities correspond to the appropriate grade level for New York state curriculum standards. Thursdays, Oct. 13, 20 and 27, and Nov. 3, 10 and 17: "Little Bobcat"
Sarah Keyes, VIC naturalist and educator, will lead a series of programs for 3-to-5- year-olds and their parents. Activities will focus on the local flora and fauna around the VIC. Sessions meet Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon. $3/session for API members; $5/session for those who have not yet joined. Parents are asked to participate with their children. Saturdays, Oct. 15, 22 and 29, and Nov. 5 and 12-Junior Adirondacks Steward
Meets Saturdays from noon-3 p.m. The program is designed for 8-to-13-year-olds interested in learning about watersheds, Adirondack ecosystems, clean air, wildlife and recreation. Each week, participants will take a pledge to gain more knowledge about a specific part of our environment while having fun outdoors. Program graduates will be designated Junior Stewards.
