Urbandale Pumpkin Claims Iowa State Fair Big Pumpkin Title

DES MOINES, IA (08/11/2017) (readMedia)-- The giant pumpkin grown by Dan Boelman of Urbandale bested the competition in the Big Pumpkin contest judged Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Boelman has been growing pumpkins since 1994. The 758-pound pumpkin collected $1,900 in prize money.

Paul Harrington from Blakesburg claimed second place and $850 with a pumpkin weighing in at 712 lbs.

Dave Miller of Riverside earned third place and $500 with a 393 pound entry.
