"Apart from the incredible skill that VIDA brings, three of the guitars onstage are custom made Christopher Deans, which have an impressive projection and warmth and a dynamic range of sounds," said Michael St. John, Etherredge Center event coordinator.

"We expect a stunning performance from this highly acclaimed group."

VIDA Guitar Quartet, formed in 2007, is known by their musical achievements and outreach as a group and as individual artists. To date, between the group's efforts and its individual members, VIDA Guitar has released more than 15 albums. This includes Concierto de Aranjuez with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Their latest, Rhapsody, released in 2013, features works by George Gershwin, Malcom Arnold, and Adam Gorb.

"Their range of timbres and colouration is so broad that one really does forget that there are four identical instruments," according to the International Record Review.

VIDA's Etherredge Center performance will include classics from Bach; favorites from Gershwin; and modern compositions from Phillip Houghton. Most of the arrangements are by VIDA guitar Quartet themselves. The program opens with a piece from English Folk Songs, by Ralph Vaughan Williams, which he started collecting in 1903.

"VIDA has a reputation for being a dynamic and expressive ensemble, able to 'conjure up an orchestral palette of colour and effects,'" according to Classic FM.

Based in the United Kingdom, VIDA has toured internationally, visiting 50 U.S. cities, China, Spain, Sweden and within the UK.

This performance marks the third in the six-event Cultural Series planned for this year. The series continues February 14 when the Havana Cuba All-Stars performs. Turtle Island Quartet perform February 28. The series finishes with the StepCrew, on March 22.
