Victoria Native Buddy Flaherty Honored by MIAC as Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week

SAINT PAUL, MN (04/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Bethel University senior Buddy Flaherty of Victoria, Minn., has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of April 9. He had a hand in three of the four wins for the Royals' recent games, nailing two saves, including 3.1 hitless innings in a 5-3 win over St. Olaf College. He received the win in his other outing with a perfect 0.00 ERA over the course of the week.

Flaherty started the week by closing a 10-8 nonconference win against North Central University with two strikeouts and just one hit allowed to earn the save. With a scoreless eighth inning, he earned a win over Hamline University as Bethel claimed a 4-3 walk-off win. He held three St. Olaf players with no hits and no walks in 3.1 innings for his second save of the week. Flaherty leads the MIAC with six saves and 12 appearances, and has a small 1.00 ERA in 18 innings of work. Flaherty has helped Bethel earn a spot as one of the MIAC's success stories in the early season with a 14-7 record and a 5-1 MIAC mark. The Royals currently sit alone in third place.
