ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (03/10/2012)(readMedia)-- Mimi Shapiro is a visual poet who mixes trinkets and treasures with words and images. She brings this creativity to Bowers Writers House, 840 College Hill Lane, Elizabethtown, as she hosts a free book-arts workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, and Saturday, April 14.

Registration is required for this free event by calling Jesse Waters, Bowers Writers House director, at 717-689-3945 or writershouse@etown.edu.

Shapiro's works, which are included in notable national and international collections, convey a sense of time and place as she combines art and poetry to literally make a book. The workshop, supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, introduces participants to this unique art form. Attendees are asked to bring small materials they find inspiring – collage items, bits of lace or fabric, buttons, found items and memorabilia, which will be added to the books they make.
