WILKES-BARRE, PA (12/05/2017) Middle school students in the Luzerne County SHINE program at Wilkes University will celebrate Computer Science Education Week by participating in an "Hour of Code." The event will take place on Dec. 6 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center, 350 Jumper Road, Plains Township.

During Hour of Code students will create their own Google Doodle, a temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepage, using Scratch. Scratch is a free visual programing software for children to create interactive stories.

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with one-hour coding activities but expanding to various community efforts. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.
