PADUCAH, KY (11/22/2017) Dr. Barbara M. Veazey, president emeritus at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, has been awarded the Bryan L. Armstrong Communications Award by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).

Dr. Veazey is the third person to receive the Armstrong award, which recognizes individuals who have dedicated a significant amount of energy to promoting KCTCS, have pioneered new marketing methodologies and ideologies and who have championed marketing at KCTCS.

A strong supporter of KCTCS's marketing efforts over the years, Dr. Veazey retired on June 30, 2016, after spending more than 40 years at WKCTC and serving 14 years as the college's first president. The award was presented during this year's McCall Leadership Academy luncheon in October in Versailles.

The award was established in memory of Bryan L. Armstrong, the first system director of communications for KCTCS. Terri Giltner, KCTCS's current system director of marketing and communications, said Armstrong laid the foundation for all of KCTCS's marketing efforts. Prior to working at KCTCS, Armstrong was the director of public relations for the Kentucky Cabinet for Workforce Development under Gov. Paul Patton. Additionally, he was brought in to assist the governor with the communications of the creation of KCTCS. He died in 2004 at the age of 45.
