Wagner Chosen as WNYAC Athlete of the Year

BATAVIA, NY (06/29/2016)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College sophomore Lyle Wagner (Middleport, NY) was chosen as the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Senior Male Athlete of the Year for 2015-2016, ending his two years at GCC as a member of the men's soccer and swimming and diving programs.

Wagner, also named the GCC Male Athlete of the Year, was a defender for the Cougars' men's soccer team that set the single-season school record for most wins in a season (20) and held the nation's number one ranking for five consecutive weeks, advancing to the second NJCAA National Tournament in school history. As a swimmer, he was All-Region III in multiple events and holds the GCC record in the 200 backstroke. He was named the National Swimmer of the Meet in the Non-Scholarship division at the NJCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships, finishing in the top six in four individual events and leading four relay teams to top seven finishes.

Wagner earned the Region III Male Athlete of the Week and GCC Male Athlete of the Week award multiple times this year and will transfer to SUNY Geneseo in the fall.
