ROCHESTER, NY (01/19/2015)(readMedia)-- Nazareth College's Institute for Pluralism and Center for Spirituality are pleased to welcome Kim and Reggie Harris for a folk and gospel performance on campus. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., the Harris' hope to bring their African-American roots to Nazareth and sing of life, love, the quest for freedom, environment, and community. The performance will take place on Wednesday, January 28 at 7 p.m. in the Linehan Chapel of the Golisano Academic Center. The event is free and open to the public. For over 30 years, the Harris' perform modern and historical songs that explore societal ills and offer positive social messages.They combine a strong folk and gospel legacy with a solid background in classical, rock, jazz, and pop music. Interacting with performers such as Pete Seeger, Ysaye Barnwell, Jay Leno, Tom Paxton, Bernice Johnson Reason, Harry Belafonte and others has led Kim and Reggie to produce music that entertains and inspires. As a result of their CDs Steal Away and Get on Board (Appleseed Recordings) and materials developed in collaboration with the Kennedy Center, the Harris' are widely acclaimed for their contributions to the resources and knowledge base on the Underground Railroad and the modern civil Rights movement.
