Wells Earns All-MIAC Honors at Carleton College

NORTHFIELD, MN (11/01/2012)(readMedia)-- Carleton College sophomore Taylor Wells (Rochester, Minn.) earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive year by finishing eighth at the MIAC Championships on Oct. 6-8 at Bunker Hills Golf Club.

Wells posted rounds of 91-72-81 to finish at 244. Her second-round score came a day after her worst collegiate round and set a new school record at even-par 72. She played the back nine in two-under par. She is the first Carleton female golfer to shot an even-par round. Wells finished the fall season with an 81.21 stroke average, which ranked third on the squad and sixth in the conference. She recorded a trio of top-10 finishes in six tournaments and shot in the 70s six times in 14 rounds this fall.

The Knights finished second as a team at the MIAC Championships, ending with a school-record 977 for the 54-hole event. The total shattered the old school record, set at last year's conference tournament, by 25 shots. It marked Carleton's best finish ever at the MIAC Championships. Carleton's team average of 329.5 is on pace to set a new school record and is the third lowest in the MIAC.

Carleton has been nationally ranked all season, sitting at 11th in the Golf World/Women's College Golf Association (WCGA) women's coaches poll for most of the season until moving down to 21st in the new poll, released today. The Knights have completed their fall season and are now off from competition until the spring season, which starts in March.
