West Liberty's Brooke Bowie named NAIA Scholar-Athlete

CANTON, MO (12/16/2011)(readMedia)-- The Culver-Stockton College volleyball team had four players recognized as 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Volleyball Scholar-Athletes by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics this week.
Named to the list were senior outside hitter Deandra Bockhold, junior defensive specialist Brooke Bowie, junior middle blocker Kory O'Laughlin, and junior defensive specialist Julianna Gillam. Bockhold was named to the list for the second straight year.
Bowie, a business administration major from West Liberty, Iowa (West Liberty HS), appeared in 96 sets (32 matches). She recorded 204 digs (2.12/set) and 34 service aces during the season. Bowie was also one of the top serve reception players on the team, finishing with a reception percentage of 92.2 percent.
Three hundred eighty-five volleyball players were recipients of the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete honor. Student-athletes must have a junior or senior academic standing and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50. Student-athletes who transferred must have been in attendance at an institution for one full year to be eligible.
