STAUNTON, VA (04/14/2011)(readMedia)-- "Friends, Romans and Countrymen, lend me your ear"..... The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department is conducting it's annual Eggstravaganza. The American Shakespeare Center is hosting William Shakespeare's 447th birthday party. They're both taking place on April 23rd, 2011 in Gypsy Hill Park. They both involve lots of children's activities and they are both free with all little people invited to attend. This is one eggstaordinary children's affair, a "dish fit for the gods".

The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department's Eggstravaganza will begin at 9am at the Garden Center next to the big playground. The event activities include the moonbounce, old-fashioned egg coloring, seasonal craft projects, face painting, balloon animals, Grand Egg Hunts and refreshments. The Grand Egg Hunts begin promptly at 10am. There will be 500 eggs hidden per hunt. The Grand Egg Hunt Schedule: 2&3 year olds - 10 am, 4&5 year olds - 10:30 am, 6&7 year olds - 11 am, 8-10 year olds - 11:30 am. Last year the Recreation Dept. was surprised by 700 egg hunters as they had anticipated 350 as in previous years. The largest group was the younger 3-5 year olds. To accommodate for the increase, we have added about 1,000 eggstra eggs and one additional age group. Parents should arrive at least 1/2 hour prior to their child's hunt to allow time to register. Please bring your baskets or collection bag. A major thank you to Randy Bowers of Churchville for supplying the eggstra eggs and candy this year.

"Can one desire too much of a good thing?" In addition to the Eggstravaganza, The American Shakespeare Center is hosting William Shakespeare's 447th birthday party at the Bandstand in Gypsy Hill Park. The event will feature Shakespeare themed activity stations like BARD-O, coin purse toss, crown making, and Queen Elizabeth and Sir Francis Drake's favorite Bocce Ball. There will be several performances culminating into a "one fell swoop" signing of Happy Birthday to Shakespeare. Cake to be served following the celebration. Shakespeare fun begins at 10:30 am and will wrap-up around 1pm.
