ELMIRA, NY (11/14/2018) For today's #WhatToDoWednesday spotlight on campus clubs and activities, saddle up with Elmira College's Equestrian Club! If you are interested in riding, competing, or just love horses, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The Equestrian Club and Team is under the guidance of MaryLou Spencer, owner and riding instructor, of Foxmoor Farm located in Horseheads, New York. The team travels to various college campuses throughout the academic year to compete at eight horse shows. They have competed in four so far this year. In the past, riders like Sydney Stringham '19, Megan Allenza '21, and Anna von Hagn '20 have taken first place!

"All of our student riders are on different levels in their riding careers from beginner to experienced," said Sydney Stringham '19, member and president of the Equestrian Club and Team. "Students involved in our club are not required to compete, but they are encouraged to take riding lessons."

The team competes against other colleges in their Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Zone 2 Region 1 season. When they are not competing, they are practicing in the barn or just talking about horses.

Cheer on the Soaring Eagles team at their competitions, or saddle up and join the team! If you are interested in competing, team members are required to belong to the IHSA.

You can also follow the riders and horses on Facebook, Instagram (@ec_equestrian), and through their website. Their next show is on November 17th at Lehman Farm, Pittsford, NY at 8 am. Make sure to check out this season's show schedule located on all of their portals.
