Wheaton College (Ill.) Favor Ezewuzie named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year

Wheaton junior Favor Ezewuzie has been named the Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Midwest Region "Track Athlete of the Year" by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

This marks her second regional award from the organization after earning recognition as the Midwest Region "Track Athlete of the Year" during the 2019 indoor track & field season.

Ezewuzie, the "Most Outstanding Track Athlete" at the 2019 CCIW outdoor Track & Field Championships, recently earned All-Region from the USTFCCCA in four events. She will represent Wheaton at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and the 4X100-meter relay this weekend in Geneva, Ohio.

Ezewuzie's school-record time of 11.96-seconds in the 100-meter dash at the Augustana Twilight meet on May 16 was fastest in the Midwest Region this year and fourth-fastest in Division III. Her time of 24.63-seconds, also at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Meet, ranked third in the Midwest Region and ninth in Division III this season. Her national qualifying effort in the 100-meter hurdles was a time of 14.41-seconds at the Augustana meet. The effort was fourth among competitors in the Midwest Region this season.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
