Wheaton College (Ill.) Kelly Thornton earns First-Team All-CCIW recognition and CCIW "Player of the Year"

Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton earned First Team All-CCIW recognition at utility. Additionally, Thornton was recognized as the CCIW's "Player of the Year". Thornton is just the fourth Wheaton Player to win the CCIW Player of the Year award since it started in 1989.

Kelly Thornton's All-CCIW selection marks her fourth career First Team All-CCIW honor, making her the second Wheaton player to earn First Team All-CCIW recognition in all four seasons of her career. Thornton had a team-high .442 (23-for-52) batting average in 16 conference games this season ranking third in the league in batting average. She hit for a .654 slugging percentage in league play that ranked second in the conference this season and her .508 on-base percentage was third. She ranked first in the league in doubles (8) in CCIW play, was second in hits (23) and total bases (34).

Overall for the year, Thornton posted a .442 (57-for-129) batting average in 39 games, with a .500 on-base percentage and .674 slugging percentage. She hit four home runs this year, with 18 doubles. She scored 31 runs and tallied 37 RBI this year. Thornton tied Wheaton's single-season record for total bases with 87 this season and her 59 hits ranks second in the record books. Her 18 doubles in 2019 ranks second in Wheaton's single-season record book and her 37 RBI this year ranks fifth.
