Wheaton College (Ill.) Leif Van Grinsven named to 2018-2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Men's Track & Field/Cross Country team

Leif Van Grinsven of the Wheaton men's track and field team, has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Seven Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA.

Van Grinsven, a senior, earned First Team Academic All-District recognition for the third-consecutive year. A two-time Google Cloud Academic All-American, he is a an Interdisciplinary Studies major at Wheaton with a 3.98 cumulative GPA. A four-time All-American in men's track and field (indoor and outdoor), Van Grinsven recently finished fourth in the decathlon at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In March, he picked up All-American honors in the men's heptathlon with a sixth place finish at the 2019 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. He was honored as the 2019 CCIW Field Athlete of the Meet at the 2019 CCIW Outdoor Championships as he won his third-consecutive CCIW decathlon title, with a conference record 7,009 points. During the indoor track and field season, he set a new school record in the heptathlon and won the CCIW Championship in the multi-event competition.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
