Where Does Hillary Stand On Driver’s Licenses for Illegal Aliens?
Mondello Statement
ALBANY, NY (10/31/2007)(readMedia)-- During last night’s Democratic debate, the entire nation saw what has been evident to New Yorkers for weeks: Hillary Clinton’s refusal to take a stand on Governor Spitzer’s decision to issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.
Three out of four New Yorkers, hundreds of elected officials, the county clerks who implement the plan, law enforcement officials and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff all oppose giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.
Yet, Senator Clinton has avoided taking a position, advocating both for and against the issue.
The question remains whether Hillary Clinton stands with this overwhelming majority of New Yorkers in opposition to this bad policy. It is time for Hillary Clinton to clearly tell the public her position on this critical issue.
Americans are asking themselves two questions following the debate:
Is Hillary Clinton’s response indicative of an inability to make clear decisions on vital issues? And, is she is capable of decisively functioning, during an era of great international turmoil, at the President’s desk where the buck stops?
