Whole Grain Breads Win Awards at State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/27/2019) (readMedia)-- Yeast breads for the Whole Grain Breads with Red Star Platinum Yeast competition were judged Friday, August 16, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Louise Piper of Garner claimed first place and a $75 cash award.

Charlene Hermiston of Blue Grass earned second place.

Entries were judged on shape, crust, texture and flavor.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
