Lebanon Valley College Wig and Buckle Theater Presents "Tartuffe"

ANNVILLE, PA (03/30/2015)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College's Wig and Buckle Theater Company is pleased to announce their upcoming production of the comedy "Tartuffe" by the famous French playwright Molière. The play is set to debut Saturday, April 18 at 8 p.m. This final production for the Company's 2014-2015 season is sure to be a hit.

"Tartuffe," which takes place in Paris, France, was written and first performed in 1664. When Orgon, the master of the house, takes in the seemingly pious Tartuffe, the rest of the members of the household - namely Dorine, the housemaid - see right through him immediately as a fake. When Orgon calls off the marriage plans of his daughter, Mariane, to the handsome Valère in order for her to marry Tartuffe, every member of the house must work together to try and change Orgon's mind and save poor Mariane.

Although this play was written just over 350 years ago, director Lacey Eriksen '16 is excited to breathe new life into it. "My concept was to stick to the classic qualities of the show, but to add a colorful twist to it. Those colorful elements are going to be very evident in the set and costuming," she said.

Eriksen has collaborated with the costume designer, Amelia Catanzaro '15, and set designers Theresa Peters '16 and Taylor Saraiva '14 to make her vision for the production come to life.

Jarrod Goss '16 plays the part of Orgon. "My part as Orgon has been one of my more challenging parts," Goss explains, as he has played numerous roles in Wig and Buckle productions. "And at this point in the rehearsal process, things are starting to shape out to be highly comedic. I'm excited to get people in the seats, I think they'll really like it if the casts' reaction is anything to go off of."

Showings of "Tartuffe" will be April 18, 23, 24, and 25 at 8 p.m., and April 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are free for LVC students, $15 for adults; $10 for non-LVC students, alumni, and faculty; $5 for children 10 and under; and $5 for seniors 60 and over.
