Wild Game Recipes Win at Iowa State Fair Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/20/2014)(readMedia)-- Entrants to the Wild Game Cook-off judged Saturday at the 2014 Iowa State Fair were challenged to use native fish, game or other natural foods native to Iowa.

In the Meats class, Cinnamon Weinman of Pleasant Hill received first place. Amy Doud of Clive claimed second place, and Ileen M. Wallace of Council Bluffs nabbed third.

In the Nature's Harvest class, Wallace claimed first place and Doud received second. Alicia Hill of Pella grabbed third place.

Entries were judged on taste, uniqueness, appearance and best use of wild resources.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 226 divisions, 883 classes and over 10,500 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
