WILKES-BARRE, PA (02/06/2018) Eve Ensler's award-winning play The Vagina Monologues will be presented Feb. 9 and 10 at Wilkes University. Performances are on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. Both shows will be held in the Henry Student Center Ballroom, 84 W. South Street, Wilkes-Barre. Admission is free for Wilkes University students (with ID), $5 for students from other colleges and universities (with ID), and $10 general admission.

The play is based on playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women and girls. Hailed as an important piece of political theatre by The New York Times, The Vagina Monologues gives voice to many experiences and issues not previously dealt with in public, bringing attention to a movement to end violence against women and girls. The play celebrates women's sexuality and strength.

Proceeds from the Wilkes event benefit the Domestic Violence Service Center, the Victims Resource Center and Planned Parenthood Keystone. Each year, performances also donate 10 percent of proceeds to the V-Day organization's spotlight campaign. The theme of the spotlight campaign 2018 is resistance.

V-Day, a non-profit movement to raise money to combat violence against women, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. V-Day, observed each year in February, is marked by performances of Ensler's play around the world. More than 5,800 V-Day events are held annually.
