William Burke Best Receives Award at Hampden-Sydney College Opening Convocation

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (08/29/2011)(readMedia)-- At Opening Convocation on Thursday, August 25, William Burke Best, a senior at Hampden-Sydney College, received the President's Award for Overall Academic Excellence.

An Allan Scholar, Burke plays varsity lacrosse and is a member of the Pre-Health Society and the social fraternity Kappa Sigma. He was the recipient of the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award at Final Convocation in April 2011. A biology major, Burke is a graduate of Norfolk Academy and is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Richard Best of Virginia Beach.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
