Winner of the 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Contest Division I Class B

Patrick Holcomb is the winner of the 2017 Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Contest Division I Class B for his string orchestra piece, "Shortcut Through the City." Written for Bill Makin and the Ithaca High School Symphonic Strings, the piece is described by Holcomb as "inspired by the landscape of Ithaca (both natural and man-made) and the feeling of becoming lost in a familiar place."

A music composition major, Holcomb was also commissioned by the Connecticut Summerfest to compose a new work for Horn and Harp. The resulting piece, "Finding Muse," premiered last summer.
