AIKEN, SC (11/27/2018) A University of South Carolina Aiken Women's Soccer player has been named Student of the Month for November by the Sunrise Rotary Club.

Kaitlyn Armstrong, an exercise and sports science major from Ontario, earned the monthly honor.

"I chose USC Aiken so I could pursue my dream of playing collegiate soccer while working toward an undergraduate degree," the senior said.

Ultimately, Armstrong plans to get her doctorate in exercise physiology.

"{I want to] assist in the transition towards a more wellness-based healthcare system with more emphasis on exercise, proper nutrition, and prevention of diseases," she said.

In addition to the Rotary recognition, Armstrong has been named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team and has routinely earned a spot on the Presidential Honor Roll and Dean's List. Despite a hectic soccer schedule, she finds time to serve in a variety of student leadership roles. These include president of the Exercise and Sports Science Student Association, as a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, as the athletics senator for the USC Aiken Student Government Association, and as a member of the Campus Intercollegiate Athletics Committee.

Sports and extracurricular activities aside, she also conducts undergraduate research with a faculty advisory and cooks, travels and plays with her dogs as much as she can.
