Women's self-defense course begins February 8
JACKSONVILLE, IL (01/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Illinois College faculty and staff are offering a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) basic self-defense course to women in Jacksonville and the surrounding communities beginning next month. A comprehensive training course that focuses on teaching women realistic physical techniques to defend against sexual assault, the course emphasizes awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance in addition to basic hands-on defense training. This is the sixth year Illinois College has offered the training.
The largest network of its kind with over 7,000 instructors teaching at colleges, universities, law enforcement agencies and community organizations internationally, R.A.D. is endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators and has a lifetime return policy. After completing R.A.D. training once, the course can be taken again to refresh self-defense skills free of charge.
The training will be offered Sunday evenings at Illinois College from 3 to 5:30 p.m. starting February 5 and continuing February 12, 19 and 26 in Memorial Gymnasium from 5 to 8 p.m. In addition to female Illinois College students, faculty and staff members, the course is open to all women in the community. The training, which is not for credit, has a $20 enrollment fee payable at the first training session.
The Illinois College R.A.D. program is supported by a Walmart Community Grant and Illinois College Student Forum. To register for the self-defense course, call Beth Capo at 245.3346 or bcapo@ic.edu.
