ASHLAND, OH (12/05/2011)(readMedia)-- On Nov. 4, Woodridge High School competed in the Fifth Annual Ashland University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Institute of Contemporary Financial Studies (ICFS) Financial Literacy Competition and placed second in the "Lightning Round" phase and third in the "Case Analysis" event.
Woodridge students Devin Burns, Ashley Christopher, Katie Gilbertson, Casey Goff, Catrina Hilling, Hannah Margroff and Karli Westren, along with their advisor, Leah Norris, participated in this exciting and demanding event.
The competition consisted of two separate parts. In the morning, students competed in a one-on-one competition with other schools in the SIFE/ICFS Lightning rounds. During this section, each competing team was given a series of questions beginning with the easiest category and working their way up to the most difficult questions.
Not only did the team have to be the first to ring in, but they also had to answer the question correctly. If an incorrect answer was given, the other team had a chance to answer or to pass. Wrong answers earned negative points.
The case analysis was the second part to the competitive event. Each team was given information on a young couple who were facing financial difficulties. While working closely with members from the Eagle Investment Group, each team created a financial plan that would not only help the couple better manage their money, but also plan for their future and that of their children.
Each team presented their solution to a panel of senior finance majors after completing several hours of planning, researching, and presenting. Not only was judging based on the thoroughness of their solutions, but also on its realism and practicality.
This AU SIFE/ICFS event was sponsored, in part, by the Morgan Foundation for Entrepreneurial Studies, and the Eagle Investment Group.
