Woodward Cook Scores Saucy Win at State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/17/2011)(readMedia)-- Lisa Baumhover of Woodward claimed first place in the Indian Summer Applesauce contest judged Wednesday, August 10, prior to the start of the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Phyllis Duncan of Des Moines won second place, and Reyna Evans of Mitchellville took third place.

In the Kids' category, Joseph Baumhover of Woodward won first place, and Julia Polson of Ankeny claimed second place.

Participants were challenged to use applesauce as a featured ingredient in a culinary creation.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Due to the large number of classes, Food Department judging begins prior to the Fair in the recently-renovated Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
