POTSDAM, NY (09/24/2013)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series will present the Jerusalem Quartet in concert on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music. This performance will open the 24th CPS Guest Artist Series season, known for bringing performances by internationally recognized artists to North Country audiences.

Since its formation in 1993, the Jerusalem Quartet has emerged as one of the most talented, busiest, and in-demand string quartets of its generation, and is now celebrating its 20th season. The quartet takes the works of classical masters and produces a sound that will not be forgotten.

The Potsdam program will feature Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's String Quartet in B-Flat Major (KV589), Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 11 in F-Minor, Op. 122, and Antonin Dvorak's String Quartet in G-Major, Op. 106.

About the performers:

The Jerusalem Quartet was recently nominated for the 2013 Artist of the Year Award by Gramophone, and has also received numerous prizes and awards for its past albums. The ensemble formed while its members were students at the Jerusalem Conservatory of Music and Dance. They quickly found a shared commitment to the music that has not only endured, but has propelled them to the highest level of performance. The four members of the quartet are Alexander Pavlovsky, Sergei Bresler, Ori Kam and Kyril Zlotnikov. Kam joined the group in 2011, upon the departure of founding violist Amihai Grosz.

Pavlovsky has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Kiev Chamber Orchestra and the Israel Camerata. Bresler has also had a solo career, performing with the Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra as well as the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Kam has a long list of credentials, including playing with every orchestra in Israel, the New Jersey Symphony and the Manhattan Philharmonia. Zlotnikov has been a soloist with countless orchestras, including the Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic.

Ticket prices range from $22 to $30 for adults, with additional discounts for students, seniors and SUNY Potsdam faculty/staff.
