Young Chefs Get Creative in the Kitchen
DES MOINES, IA (09/03/2021) (readMedia)-- Aspiring cooks between the ages of 6 and 11 squared off in 22 classes of competition to win top honors in the Casey's Junior Favorite Creations contest, judged Thursday, August 19, at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.
Hailey Bahr of Indianola won First Place Overall and a $100 gift card.
Nathan Roorda of Waukee claimed Second Place Overall and a $50 gift card. Kelsey Bahr of Indianola took home Third Place and a $25 gift card, as well as the Sweepstakes Award.
Addison Spencer of Stanton earned the Reserve Sweepstakes award.
Entries were judged on taste, texture, appearance and creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
