Young Cook's Corny Creations Win State Fair Honors

DES MOINES, IA (08/17/2017) (readMedia)-- Andrea Spencer of Stanton won First Place Overall in the Snappy Popcorn Creations competition, judged Tuesday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Clark Spencer of Stanton claimed Second Place Overall and Brenda Becker of Pella earned Third Place Overall.

Contestants between the ages of 7 and 17 were challenged to create an award winning popcorn treat.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance and creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
