Zephyr Teachout + Activists Rally at Trump Tower as Trump Cancels Press Conference re: Conflicts of Interest

Common Cause, MoveOn.org, Public Citizen, Rootstrikers, Every Voice to Trump: Sell Assets into a True Blind Trust; Deliver Petition with 200,000 + Signatures

NEW YORK, NY (12/15/2016)(readMedia)-- Leading anti-corruption activist Zephyr Teachout will join with members of Common Cause/NY, Every Voice, Demand Progress, Public Citizen and MoveOn.org to deliver 200,000 petitions to Trump Tower demanding President-elect Trump sell his assets and place them into a blind trust. Over 200,000 + CREDO members have signed an additional petition calling on House Oversight Committee Chair Jason Chaffetz to launch an investigation into Trump's financial arrangements.

President-elect Donald Trump was scheduled to have a press conference to address his conflicts of interest on Thursday, but cancelled it.

The fact that Trump owns properties and has invested in corporations throughout the world creates an inherent conflict of interest between his roles as president and business owner. Given the global nature of Trump's business empire, the conflicts will materially affect the conduct of foreign policy.

Trump's suggestion that he turn the businesses over to his children does not eliminate the conflict of interest because Trump will know how the assets are being handled and still could have a say in business operations.

In addition to Trump Tower in New York City, activists will deliver petitions to Trump properties, Chicago, Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. Activists also will deliver petitions to U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey's (R-Pa.) office in Philadelphia.
