Zephyr Teachout + Unruly Women Rally @ Trump Tower for Ranked Choice Voting 1 Year After Kavanaugh
AM Yuh-Line Niou, Bertha Lewis, Zenaida Mendez etc...
NEW YORK, NY (10/06/2019) (readMedia)-- On Sunday, one year after Brett Kavanaugh's controversial confirmation to the Supreme Court, a group of unruly, insurgent women will rally together for Ranked Choice Voting in front of Trump Tower. Ranked Choice Voting helps women and insurgent candidates defeat the status quo and the men who uphold it. According to a 2016 study of cities in the Bay Area with Ranked Choice Voting, women have won more than 40% of all contests. In San Francisco, one of the cities in the study, women won nine of eleven open seats in RCV elections in 2014.
Ranked choice voting (RCV) will be question 1 on the NYC ballot in November. A critical voting reform already in cities like San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Santa Fe, RCV produces winners chosen by the majority of their district, saves taxpayer money by avoiding costly run-offs, and helps voters make sense of crowded candidate fields in primary and special elections.
