Conor Sanders Receives Final Convocation Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/28/2011)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 21, Hampden-Sydney College senior Conor Patrick Sanders received the William R. Hendley Award in Economics, presented by Dr. Saranna R. Thornton, Professor of Economics. This award is presented to the senior economics major who, in the judgment of the department, has gained the greatest benefit from his major.
A Patrick Henry Scholar, Conor serves as Secretary-Treasurer of Student Government, as Chair of the Student Finance Committee, and as a Head Resident Advisor. He is a member of the honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership) and Omicron Delta Epsilon (economics), and is a member of the Garnet & Grey Society (admissions tour guide), the Student Investment Group, the Society of '91 (leadership program), the Catholic Campus Ministry, and the social fraternity Phi Gamma Delta. Conor was recognized for leadership in the 2010 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He received the Jeffrey N. Friend Award at Final Convocation in 2010, presented to the rising senior who best typifies a generous spirit, leadership abilities, and an unusual skill for bringing out the best in his friends and brothers. An economics and commerce major, Conor graduated from Boys' Latin School of Maryland and is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Barry M. Sanders of Baltimore.
