American Red Cross Hosts “Community That Cares” Blood Drive

Residents Urged to Give Blood to Show They Care by Boosting Regional Blood Supplies

WEST HENRIETTA, NY (04/18/2008)(readMedia)-- The American Red Cross New York-Penn Blood Services Region will host a special “Community That Cares” blood drive on Thursday, April 24, at Ithaca VFW, 423 W State St., Ithaca, from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. A “Community That Cares” blood drive is a Red Cross initiative, which provides the opportunity for various community groups to come together for a common, larger blood drive.

All current presenting donors will be eligible to enter a random drawing to win a $1,000 toward an extreme outdoor makeover. The drawing will be held throughout the Region on Monday, May 12. To register, presenting donors are asked to visit www.pointsforpints.org. As a special thank you, a “Community That Cares” tee-shirt also will be given to all presenting donors at the drive.

All current and new donors are strongly urged to call 1-800-GIVE LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit www.DonateBloodNow.org to schedule an appointment. Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Sixteen-year-olds may donate blood provided they bring an original signed an Informed Parental Consent for a 16-Year-Old to Donate Whole Blood to the blood drive.
