BATAVIA, NY (08/05/2008; 1107)(readMedia)-- Eighty six percent of the students identified in The Batavia Daily News' roster of "Top Ten" area high school students have attended Genesee Community College through the College's Accelerated Enrollment Program, Dr. Larene Hoelcle, Vice President for Human Resources and Planning, reported to the Board of Trustees Monday evening.
The Accelerated College Enrollment Program brings Genesee courses to high school students, either in their own high school, or at a campus location.
The Daily News annually profiles the "Top Ten" graduating students of area school districts. This year, The Daily News covered top graduates of Albion, Alexander, Attica, Batavia, Byron-Bergen, Elba, Holley, Kendall, Letchworth, LeRoy, Lyndonville, Medina, Notre Dame, Oakfield-Alabama, Pavilion, Pembroke, Perry, and Warsaw high schools. Of the 180 top graduates cited in The Daily News story, 155 had attended Genesee. In six districts - Attica, Batavia, Elba, Oakfield-Alabama, Pembroke, and Perry - all ten of the students covered had participated in Genesee courses.
Twelve of the "Top Ten" graduates indicated that they plan to attend Genesee to begin or continue their college careers in the Fall 2008 semester. SUNY colleges will receive 69 of these outstanding graduates.
