HON. KATHERINE OLIVER, Commissioner, the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting

Thanks to the efforts of The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, New York City serves as the backdrop for feature films, commercials, television shows and music videos. New York City is a larger-than-life presence in the imagination of audiences everywhere.

On August 6th, KATHERINE OLIVER, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, will speak to us about how this office - the first established in the country - has become the one-stop shop for the entertainment production industry. She will discuss how the office markets the five boroughs of New York City to production companies, the cultural and labor benefits derived from its work, permit requirements and street location decisions, the challenges facing filming in New York City, and her goals for the future of this office. Ms. Oliver was previously general manager of Bloomberg Radio and Television, which she joined in 1992. She oversaw Bloomberg's 10 channels.

The meeting will be moderated by television producer and WCC member VIRGINIA KASSEL. She has produced and written award winning drama specials and series, public affairs documentaries, live events, performance programs, and nightly news for Primetime, Ltd., London; Great Performances, PBS; CBS Cable; BBC; London Weekend Television; WGBH, Boston. At WNET she developed and produced The Adams Chronicles, the 13 part Bicentennial series that won the Peabody, two Ohio State awards, 27 Emmy nominations, four Emmy awards and first prize at the Virgin Island International Film Festival. She received an award from American Women in Radio and Television, a Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Educational Broadcasters, and a U.S. Congressional citation.

Commissioner Oliver will take questions.
