Authority Reminds Motorists of Lane Closures on I-87 Due to Bridge Project

ALBANY, NY (05/01/2008; 1507)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that a lane closure along I-87 at milepost 131.9, approximately two miles south of Exit 21A (To I-90 East, Massachusetts Turnpike, Boston) will be in effect until noon tomorrow, Friday, May 2, 2008. The closure is necessary due to an on-going bridge project which includes deck and joint repairs.

The lane will need to be closed for one more day due to inclement weather earlier this week.

The revised scheduled lane closure for this week is outlined below:

• Beginning on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 7:00 a.m. the left northbound lane will be closed from milepost 130.4 to 131.9 around the clock, until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008. (Previously scheduled to reopen at 12 p.m. today, Thursday, May 1, 2008.)

The scheduled lane closures for the next two weeks are outlined below:

• Beginning on Monday, May 05, 2008 at 7:00 a.m. the left southbound lane will be closed from milepost 133.3 to 131.9 around the clock, until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 08, 2008.

• Beginning on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 7:00 a.m. the right southbound lane will be closed from milepost 133.3 to 131.9 around the clock, until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008.

The Authority has activated its Highway Advisory Radio (HAR); Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) have been posted in advance of the area to advise motorists of the construction and required lane closures.

As always, motorists are reminded to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through the construction work zone. Motorists should also keep in mind that fines for speeding are doubled in construction work zones.
