Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Recruit Apprentices

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (09/25/2007; 1155)(readMedia)-- The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 5, will conduct recruitment for five bricklayer/mason/plasterer apprentices from October 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available every working Monday, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the following locations: Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 5, 126 Innis Ave., Poughkeepsie; Electrical Workers Local 363, 8 Taylor Lane, New City; Building and Construction Trades Council of Westchester and Putnam Counties, 258 Saw Mill River Road, Elmsford; NYS Department of Labor, The Maple Building, 3 Washington Center, Newburgh; NYS Department of Labor, 601 Development Court, Kingston; and NYS Department of Labor, 50 North St., Monticello.

The union requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.
  • Be physically able to do the work.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
