CSEA Endorses Candidates In Saratoga Springs Race

LATHAM, NY (10/11/2007; 1000)(readMedia)-- The Civil Service Employees Association today announces the union's endorsement of Ken Ivins (R) in the City of Saratoga Springs Finance Commissioner race, John Franck (D) in the City of Saratoga Springs Commissioner of Accounts race and Richard Wirth (R) in the City of Saratoga Springs Public Safety Commissioner race. On Wednesday, the union endorsed Anthony "Skip" Scirocco (R) in the race for Saratoga Springs DPW Commissioner.

"These are good candidates for good people," said CSEA City Hall Unit President Kathy Moran. "They support a fair and balanced property tax system, communities that are safe and clean for our families and decent wages and benefits for working people."

"I am thrilled that the CSEA has supported me in my bid to become Commissioner of Finance. It is an honor to know that CSEA feels that I am the most qualified candidate and that my track record of proven leadership speaks for itself," Ivins said. "I look forward to working with the CSEA throughout my campaign and they can count on me to address the needs of residents of Saratoga Springs, while maintaining a focus on fiscal responsibility," he added.

"I feel it is an honor and a privilege to be endorsed by the largest public employees union in the state of New York. This endorsement tells me the workers that make our public safety department work each and every day are behind my candidacy," Wirth said. "I have spent over 35 years in government and I have always had an open door policy, and I plan to encourage the residents of Saratoga Springs and CSEA to meet with me on a regular basis regarding any and all of their concerns."

CSEA is informing its members of the endorsements and encouraging their vote in the General Election on November 6. CSEA will also work to support the candidates' campaigns through phone banks, literature drops and other get out the vote efforts.

CSEA is New York State's leading union, representing employees of New York State and its counties, towns, villages, school districts, library systems, authorities and public corporations. Together with a growing number of private sector members and 50,000 retirees, CSEA forms a union 265,000 strong. It is also the largest affiliate (and Local 1000) of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) which, in turn, is one of the largest affiliates of the AFL-CIO.
