Capital Region Sponsor A Scholar Inducts 10 New Students at Schenctady High School

SCHENECTADY, NY (10/30/2007; 1152)(readMedia)-- Schenectady High School Induction Ceremony for Capital Region Sponsor A Scholar Thursday November 1, 2007 2:30 Schenectady High School 1445 The Plaza Schenectady, NY 12308

On Thursday 10 Students at Schenectady High School will be inducted into the Capital Region Sponsor A Scholar Program. Sponsor-A-Scholar currently has 272 students enrolled. The mission of the program is to increase access to higher educational programs. Therefore, Sponsor-A-Scholar offers support in the form of time, mentors and money. The direct beneficiaries of CRSAS include work spent with students and their families. However, the hope is also that the community at large will benefit, as it already is, from Sponsor-A-Scholar students returning with college degrees to work and improve the overall culture of the Capital Region. The students will be joined by their families, school academic advisors, and administrators. William Corbett, President of Sponsor A Scholar will be there to welcome them and instruct them on the benefits they will receive personally and academically through Capital Region Sponsor A Scholar. Trish Smith a graduate of the Sponsor A Scholar program was voted Schenectady Youth of the Year. A Current student Hermavaltie Ramtahal is youth chairperson of Schenectady’s Promise. William Corbett comments, “we can already see the students giving back to the community on so many levels. I’m sure this new class of students will show the same community spirit.”
