Carpenters Recruit Apprentices

OLEAN, NY (10/10/2008; 0800)(readMedia)-- The Empire State Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Local 66, will conduct recruitment from October 15, 2008 through September 16, 2009 for three apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available in person only and can be obtained at the local, 112 South Third Street, Olean, on the third Wednesday of each month during the recruitment period, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.
  • Sign an Attestation form stating they are physically able to do the work.
  • Pass a drug test at the committee's expense.
  • Live within the local's geographic jurisdiction - Allegany, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua counties.
  • Be willing to attend school in Rochester, NY for four one-week sessions each year.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and apprentice school.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
