Central NY Military Police Guard Unit Returns from Beat in Baghdad

LATHAM, NY (10/22/2007; 0946)(readMedia)-- Citizen Soldiers from the 222nd Military Police Company return home after a 14 month federal call up for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Unit members recently conducted demobilization tasks at Fort Dix, N.J. and arrive home in Auburn and Hornell for reunions with family members and release home. WHAT: Homecoming for federally mobilized NY National Guard Soldiers

WHEN: Approximately 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2007

WHERE: New York State Armories in Auburn and Hornell, NY

WHO: Approximately 60 members of the 222nd MP Company, NY Army National Guard

BACKGROUND:

The Military Police Soldiers conducted a variety of convoy security and military law enforcement missions in and around Baghdad.

The two platoons of Soldiers merged with troops from 12 other states and to support the 240th Military Police Company from the Puerto Rico Army National Guard.

Arriving with the Soldiers from Auburn will be 1st Lt. Monique Barnhart, the unit platoon leader and in Hornell will be 1st Sergeant Scott Smilinich.
