ALBANY, NY (09/14/2007; 1603)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that construction near the Woodbury Toll Plaza will continue next week. The primary purpose for this project is to implement Highway Speed E-ZPass, which will improve traffic operations at the Woodbury Toll Plaza, Thruway mainline and ramps of Interchange 16 (Harriman, Route 17, US 6). Next week’s work will include lane striping and a traffic switch on to the new entrance ramp from the Harriman Toll Plaza to I-87 southbound. A southbound lane closure extending from the Woodbury Toll Plaza for two miles south, is scheduled from 9 p.m. on Monday, September 17, until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, weather permitting. The left and center lanes will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. on Monday. During the nighttime work, this will transition to a right lane closure paired with a left lane closure on the entrance ramp from the Harriman Toll Plaza to I-87 southbound. It is expected that traffic will be switched on to the new entrance ramp by Tuesday morning. Highway Speed E-ZPass at the Woodbury Toll Plaza will eventually serve as the standard for other areas scheduled to implement Highway Speed E-ZPass along the Thruway System. The Authority has activated its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) to advise motorists of the work being conducted as part of this project. The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding while this essential work takes place. - 30 -
