ALBANY, NY (10/26/2007; 1645)(readMedia)-- Michael J. Burgess, director of the NYS Office for the Aging, will present the Nancy M. Mills ’76 Memorial Lecture at the 14th annual Senior Citizens’ Law Day at Albany Law School on Saturday October 27, at 9:00 a.m.
The lecture titled “Protecting Seniors in the New Health and Consumer Marketplace” will focus on how State and local agencies can help older individuals to make informed choices in an increasingly complex health care environment.
The Senior Citizens’ Law Day is a free day-long community program of workshops to educate older persons, and those who care for an aging parent or relative, on how to deal with many issues that often come with age.
The workshops offer tips on topics such as: Reverse Mortgages, Raising Your Grandchildren, Staying Safe in Your Home, Identity Theft, Retirement Planning, Health Care Proxies and Living Wills and Fighting Investment Fraud. Over 500 older individuals are expected to attend the event which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The NY State Office for the Aging advocates for the over 3.2 million New Yorkers who are 60 years of age and older. It advocates at all levels of government and the private sector, in cooperation with older persons and concerned organizations.
