Electricians Recruit Apprentices

ORCHARD PARK, NY (09/26/2007; 1349)(readMedia)-- he International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Local 41, will conduct recruitment from October 3, 2007 through October 29, 2008 for four electrician (housewire or residential) and ten electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the local, S 3546 California Road, Orchard Park, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., every Wednesday during the recruitment period

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or general equivalency diploma with a passing grade in one year of high school or post high school algebra and
  • Take the NJATC apprentice selection battery test and obtain a score of five or higher or
  • Have a minimum of 2,400 hours of substantiated electrical construction experience.
  • Live within the local’s geographic jurisdiction (proof required) – All of Erie County; parts of Cattaraugus, Genesee and Wyoming Counties.
  • Be physically able to do the work and take a pre-employment drug test.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
