LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (07/22/2008; 1332)(readMedia)-- The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of the Elevator Industry will conduct recruitment July 22 and July 24 for 50 elevator servicer and repairer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.
Applications will be available for pick-up during the recruitment period or until 500 applications have been issued, whichever comes first from the Joint Apprentice and Training Committee of the Elevator Industry, 35-40 36th St., 2nd Floor, Long Island City, NY 11106 on a first come, first served basis from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday 7/22/08 and Thursday 7/24/08 only. Requests must contain the applicant's name, address (including apartment number, if applicable), and telephone number.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
