Founder of In the Running to Speak at Emma Willard School

TROY, NY (09/24/2008; 1606)(readMedia)--

How do young women use the power of their intellect and the energy of their passion to make positive change in today’s world?

On Saturday, September 27, Emma Willard School will host a symposium, “Women, Power, and Possibility,” that will explore this question. The symposium, the second in a series, will consist of a panel of young women already making their mark around the globe. They will examine the issues and contemplate the many possibilities that emerge when women translate their beliefs into action with commitment and conviction.

Erin Sprague, founder of In the Running, will serve as a panelist at the symposium. Founded in September 2006, In the Running is a US-based nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness for a grassroots-focused charitable organization on each continent. Sprague recently completed a marathon in Australia and now holds the world record as the youngest woman to run a marathon on all seven continents (including Antarctica). As Sprague runs marathons all over the world, In the Running supports seven small organizations that combat global challenges such as youth fitness, human trafficking, poverty, peace reconciliation, HIV/AIDS, environmental preservation, and minority advancement through education. Learn more at www.intherunning.org.

While on campus for the Symposium, Sprague will lead a two-mile Fun Run with the Emma Willard School community at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Seating for this event is limited and available on a first-come, first served basis. RSVP to Jill Smith at (518) 833-1787 or email jsmith@emmawillard.org.
