GOP Candidate Zeldin Nabs Milestone, Announces Kickoff Celebration

SHIRLEY, NY (02/21/2008; 1057)(readMedia)-- Campaign leadership for the Republican candidate for New York’s First Congressional District today announced that fundraising efforts reached a major milestone.

“We’re proud to announce that we’ve now received donations from over 2,000 supporters,” said Marcus Povinelli, campaign manager for Candidate Lee Zeldin. “We’re thrilled by this terrific showing of support and we’ve only just begun.”

The campaign also announced a change of venue for their official campaign kickoff fundraiser marking the Suffolk County GOP’s recent unanimous endorsement of Zeldin’s candidacy. The reception and dinner celebration will now take place Thursday, March 13, from 6PM to 9PM at Painter’s, located on 416 South Country Rd. in Bellport.

“We’ve come a long way,” said Zeldin, noting the early unanimous endorsement. “However, our campaign has a long way to go…We’re excited about gaining thousands of more supporters as we march towards victory in November so our community will have an independent bulldog fighting for our needs.”

Zeldin served as an aide to State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle. The Shirley resident studied at the University at Albany, graduated from Albany Law School, and earned his commission through Army ROTC. He was as a paratrooper, prosecutor and magistrate with the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps. In the summer of 2006, he was a JAG attorney deployed to Iraq. He is currently an attorney at Raiser & Kenniff on Long Island.
