Grannis Statement on U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Panel’s Decision

to Grant Hearing on Key Issues in Indian Point License Extension

As a result of the hard work and persuasive arguments presented by the state, the NRC has recognized that a significant number of issues deserve a full hearing," said New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis. "Some important contentions have been denied, which is disappointing but not surprising given the NRC's track record in other re-licensing proceedings. But the bottom line is that we now have an opportunity to air many important public safety and environmental issues before any decision is made on Indian Point's license extension."
