Heat And Frost Insulators & Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

ROCHESTER, NY (02/11/2008; 1145)(readMedia)-- The International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators & Asbestos Workers, Local 26, will conduct recruitment from February 14, 2008 through January 8, 2009 for 10 insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available in person only at the local, 4515 Culver Road, Suite 104, Rochester, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the second Thursday of each month. Applications must be completed on the premises.

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a citizen, or legally able to work in the United States.
  • Live within the local‘s geographic jurisdiction – Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Steuben, Wayne, or Yates County.
  • Have a valid NYS driver’s license – apprentices will be required to drive company vehicles.
  • Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work and take a physical examination, after acceptance, at the sponsor's expense.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
